Rumor: Nikkor 80-400mm update

[ad#Google Adsense Text]
From a number of sources now, it seems it won’t be too long before Nikon releases an update to the 80-400mm lens. This lens was so far past it’s renewal date that you could probably get fined by law enforcement authorities for using it.

The Canon version of this lens, the 100-400mm lens, is far better, though not great. Nikon should easily surpass any current performance advantage the Canon has with an updated 80-400mm lens..

However, will it be better than the current king-of-the-hill the Sigma 120-400mm OS? The Sigma is far better than the Nikon and Canon versions. And it is excellent value. In Australia, the Nikkor 80-400mm has an RRP of $2399. The Sigma is $1099.

It’s expected that the new 80-400mm lens will be announced possibly around March 2011 or it may be delayed until August to coincide with PMA in September. That’s a fair amount of time away.
