A couple of weeks ago I posted my Nikkor lens roadmap update. In there I probably started a rumor about an all-in-one walkaround for FX cameras. The article says
“To complete this list, you can see an all-in-one lens like the 28-300mm for FX cameras announced, and it may even be the next announcement.
Well, Nikonrumors posted a patent for a Nikkor 28-300mm f3.5 – 5.6 VR lens yesterday. That’s no surprise to me, and I’ll be very glad to see it come.
- Patent Publication No. 2009-19945
- Published 2010/01/28
- Filing Date 7/9/2008
- F = 28.80-292.0mm focal length
- Brightness F = 3.61-5.87
- Angle of view 76.3-8.2 °
- Focus back 38.84-96.07mm
Not all patents become reality, but this one has a high probability. It’s one of the more serious missing lenses in FX. Much more so than a AU$3200 24 f1.4 that will sell very few units.
Looks good to me.
