Nikon To Compete with the Canon G11

Submitted by Nik Trajkovski on 3 March, 2010 – 8:57 pmOne Comment

Nikon will be shortly releasing a Canon G11 competitor according to Amateur Photographer magazine. In an interview with the magazne, Kevin Egan said that the G11 is the standard by which all other compact cameras are measured.

It will be interesting to see which way Nikon go with this camera. It seems they are intent on following the megapixel race with the release of the latest line of coolpix cameras including the S8000.

The Nikon Coolpix S8000 itself isn’t too bad for a point and shoot with a big zoom, though I’d be tempted to say the Ricoh CX2 and Panasonich (coming soon) will be better received.

If Nikon do update the P6000, they could release it with the Sony back-illuminated CMOS 10MP chip and follow Canons lead in reducing the MP count.
